Clip to ScrapBook
I know how you feel. I graduated two years ago and will be starting in Sept. also. What I am doing for volunteers is sending home a sheet that I found on the internet and changed to suit my needs. I believe it was on this
website somewhere but I can email mine to you if you want. It asks the parent what type of work they would like to do in the classroom, availability, etc.
As far as classroom management, I student taught in 2nd grade and my master teacher had a good system. She used a card system. Each color card stood for a consequence (warning, time out, office, etc.). If students weren't following
rules they turned a card. If they stayed on green all day they filled out a raffle ticket and could win a raffle prize on Friday. That worked pretty well. What I would also think about for 2nd graders is how you will handle tattling. This was a major annoyance when I was student teaching, I think it is the age for it. If you go to Laura Candler's website she has a cool idea for this. It's an incident report. You will have to simplify it for your kids but it will show you who is tattling a lot and needs some redirection and encourages kids to deal with it on their own. I believe the form is in her odds n ends section. Good Luck!
