Clip to ScrapBook
First and second graders love to be read to. I always keep a pile of books to read to them near my desk. Videos on related to Science or Social Studies themes are good plus Weekly Readers (mine pile-up). I also have a
cupboard full of legos, board games, cards,play-doh that the kids use for rainy day recess(got to yard sales or ask parents to donate used or new games). I would advise the sub the kids could use these games if needed. There is a lot of social skills developed by playing these. Also kids love to write on the board. I also have invested in some whole class Bingo games (phonics, money, telling
time)that the kids love. Prizes can be as simple as allowing the winners to get a drink of water or stickers. Teach the kids the procedures for these activities early on in the school year so when you do have a sub they will know how to act.
