I teach 5th grade too. For whole class behavior management I write the letters h-o-m-e-w-o-r-k on the board on Monday morning, If the class is too noisy, uncooperative, etc. I erase a letter from the board...on Friday if they have kept all their letters (this does actually happen once in a while!) they get a small reward. This can be a popcorn party...movie, kickball game. If they have lost all their letters there will be an extra homework assignment for the weekend. You may want to allow them to earn back letters for good behavior ..it's up to you. I also let them choose their reward sometimes...they have some good practical ideas. Hope this helps!
