classroom setup
By RM

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi
I am lucky to have a good sized classroom which makes things much easier, but I have had smaller classrooms in the past so this is still how I set up my classroom.

I set up my classroom with the desks in groups of
4 or 6 in front of the board. The rest of my classroom is set up in centers most of are around the border of the classroom. At the front I have a small table where I put a reading books on tape
(the stories are on tape from our reading series)
next to that is my group kidney table for small group instruction. Moving around the room clockwise now, I have my large group center with
a large rug, easel and chart stand. I use this also for the book nook.I have book shelves not along the wall but perpendicular to the wall separating the book nook. Behind the shelves I have two tables with centers. Behind these tables I have a circular table for another center. And along the back wall I have my computer center with 3 computers. 2 tables go along the wall, and one goes perpendicular to the wall and behing that table is a cubbie unit which separates another group of 3 tables (group of 6 students can be here)or during reading can be used for small group instruction also. Next to the math center I have two filing cabinets. Next to that, still along the back wall, I have two more tables. One for S.S center and one for Geosafari. I also have a long hall within the classroom where the coat rack is and on the opposite wall I have another table for a poetry center and a pocket chart center.
going back up the room clockwise from the back wall I have a long counter with a sink and cabinets. I have two tables pushed together (group of 4 students) for my science center with a sensory table along one end of the desks.
I do not have a teachers desk. I did when I first started teaching but in the last 4 years I haven't had one. I have found that I never sit at it, it takes up too much valuable space and it was just a paper collector. I haven't missed having one.
These are the centers which I have in my room.
Book Nook
Reading Center (Stories on tape from our series)
Listening Center(enjoyable books or theme books)
Making Words Center
Language Center
Math Center
Computer Center
Poetry Center
Chart Center
S.S. Center
Science Center
Geo-Safari
SRA
Research and Library
Workshop Way
I hope this helps and isn't too confusing.
