I taught 3rd grade and realized soon after I started that 3rd graders grow up quick. I think they start to realize that they are social beings.
What seemed to work best was when the desks were set up in groups of 2 all facing the front. I tried all different types of setups because I get bored with the same old lay out every day.
Computers were in the back of the room so noone would be distracted by them if someone was working on them while doing work. My reading area was in the back corner of the room also. My desk was to the side of the room facing the students so I could have more students near me when I was sitting there.
