Clip to ScrapBook
I've had crying students before, too. The ones that are frustrated or scared or angry and cry are the easy ones to take care of. I loved the "brain massage" idea. But the kids I have trouble with are the ones that use
tears for effect. They have mastered manipulating their parents by crying when they don't get their way. So when they cry in class you don't want to look like a big ogre, but you can't cave either. And the worst part is that they often pull this piece of acting at critical moments when it is twice as hard to deal with it, like in front of the principal or a parent. So sometimes you have
to let them shed a few tears, tell them how sorry you are that they feel the need to cry, and then move on. It may sound a little heartless but I've never figured out a better way to handle it.
