Boo-Hoo, too!
By Tutor

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm a recent grad & have been tutoring at one of those places that offer after school & summer tutoring. Ijust had a student, alittle girl, going into first grade, who is really having a hard time learning how to read. She
had two simple sight words that she was supposed to give me sentences for. I was waiting...and waiting....when I looked over at her, she was crying! Now, I'm still new at this stuff, and this was never covered in my college courses. I went into "mommy mode" & I tried to make light of the situation. I asked her: "Did your brain fall asleep? Let's get it working again" and I started
to "massage" her head, talking to her brain, telling it to wake up - we had work to do, peeking into her ear to see if it was sneaking out the other side, etc. Pretty soon she was laughing. Then we talked about how sometimes it's not easy to do what teachers ask, and if that happens, she has to let us know she needs some help. That that is what the teacher is there for. We were able to come up with those 2 sentences together!
