I have been teaching for only 4 years, and am not exactly "old fashioned." I tell my kids I love them all the time. I teach K, 1, 2 and my kids are mostly from broken homes in a high poverty area, and they need that knowledge that I care. So yes, I tell them individually and as a group that I love them. I see nothing wrong with that. I DO love all of them.
