I teach 5th grade. My school has used Shurley since my son was in 7th grade. He's now a junior in college and still remembers those goofy jingles. My class smurks when we play them, but I sometimes hear them humming or singing the tune softly to themselves while they are working. Our Shurley rep. said there would be no way we would finish the book so don't don't fret over that. We play the jingles as it suggests in the book.
Teaching them in order is the preferred way.
