Child w/ problems
By Frustrated

Clip to ScrapBook
Thank you all for your wonderful advice.
I must admit, I do feel much better. I have created some folders (blank for now) for those children whose behaviors I may have to document.

I was honestly more apprehensive about
the parent than having the student. I don't want to develop preconcieved ideas about students, but she has already called into the office this summer with certain "requirements" for "Joey." (He is off medication for now, just to see how school will go, He had a terrible year last year, let's hope this teacher is better, etc.)

I do like the idea of just sending a note or making a phone

call about his positive behaviors. I will certainly do that and maybe that will help with communication.

Also, I understand about not telling parents about "Joey," or any child for that matter. If I were to have an emergency plan to take children out of the room, in case any child were to have a physical outburst -- wouldn't that in turn, send a message to the other parents that something was wrong with a student? I think it is a good idea to have an evacuation plan, not just for fires but also for outbursts. I could just say class, get ready for evacuation and send them to the gymnasium or lunchroom. I think it would be great for their safety, but I can imagine the parent phone calls and visits the next day!

Thanks again!
