HINTS: 1) Ahead of time, use one of the blank posters to create one about yourself! This will help your students & parents learn about you, and your poster will serve as the model of the quality of work & creativity you want your students to put into the assignment. 2) Require them to write all information lightly in pencil before tracing with thin color markers. Then mistakes or sloppiness can be corrected before they are permanent. 3) Allow them to work on the poster a little each day in class, & set a deadline for bringing in a photo. If they don't have a photo by the deadline, they need to draw their picture. (I would NOT assign this for homework. Let it be a surprise to parents.) 4) If your display is going on an actual bulletin board, first cover the bulletin board with pages from an actual newspaper, then hang the students' posters. Cute affect! I have seen these 'getting to know you' mini-posters at every teacher supply store I've ever visited. But, if you cannot find them or cannot spend the money, I bet you could create something similar using a computer & copier. Best wishes!
