    I also teach 4th grade and we never have less than 30 and can have up to 35 so I hear you....here are a few ideas...

    -I make a spreadsheet with the kids names on them and when I ask the kids to take out homework I will ask them who doesn't have it to raise their hand. I put a check next to who doesn't have it...
    -to get the kids to bring their homework in I have a laminated poster with the squares (looks like a big old piece of graph paper) and at the end of the week if they have brought in all of their work they get to sign the board. When it is all filled in I have a drawing...you will have to label it like a grid...
    -for the kids work to keep I have just a file box with hanging folders....

    space is such an issue when you have 30 or more students...we don't have cubbies so the backpacks are on the chairs....the list can go on....
