Kinder centers By Janet

A great book on centers is The Complete Guide to Classroom Centers by Linda Holliman with Creative Teaching Press. It goes thru different options for centers and set-ups. Yes there are many ways to go (including out of your mind), but if you choose a routine, whether free choice, chart or assigned, and try it you will find what works for you and that group of children. When you read or think about trying a particular set-up, if your not comfortable with the idea it's probably not the one you should sart with...Trust yourself. As for books, there is a new one out that should be excellant. It's published | | by Crystal Springs(they can be found online at crystalsprings.com) by Peggy Campbell-Rush. It's called "I Teach Kindergarten!"; it's $19.95 and has 180 pages. I sat in on her session at a K conference. She was so good I left my next session and went back for more. She has lots of info for structuring your classroom, activities and parent-school connection and centers. I have been teaching for 15 years and was glad to hear some new (useful) ideas. I have ordered the book and am sure it will live up to her presentation. Has anyone els out there seen it? There are always the Fountas and Pinnel books. They are Guided Reading and Word Matters. There are 1 or 2 others but these have info about setting up and running a literacy based classroom. They include classroom management and use a work board. They explain how to set it up and manage it, including giving you masters for the jobs /centers used on the chart. Most of the K teachers in our system use it (we are all-day K)
