lining-up By Claire

I come from a school that lines students up in boy and girl lines. It is totally up to the teacher though but most have found this to be the easiest. In my room I have two separate lines with mixed gender. I have tried to form the line to mix ability and personalities. I call these my apples and oranges. I use this all day, for turning in papers, getting books, coming to our meeting are, etc. It seems to take the stress off or competition of "boys" and "girls". On the back of my classroom door I have two sheets of paper with a big apple and a big orange on it and the childrens names listed underneath to remind them or to help a sub. I have to say they have really enjoyed being split up like this, they act more like a team. Hope I helped, good luck!
