You Sound Like I Did!!!

Jessica-
This will be my third year to teach. My first year, and each year since then, was insane. The district had adopted a new "reading program" through a state grant, but what it basically boiled down to was us (the
teachers) reading a novel and developing EVERYTHING that you used to teach. Now that I have some experience I think I could manage, but being a first-year teacher and knowing seemingly nothing... it sucked. For Language Arts we were just handed a HUGE teachers manual and told, "Just read over it. It's easy." There was no scope and sequence, none of the other teachers would help,
let alone share what they were doing in the classrooms.
As I said, this will be my third year and we just found out who will be teaching what grades and our school starts August 14th.
You might want to contact someone (another teacher) from the school you will be at and just kind of get a feel for school policies, district goals, what type of programs the school participates in... So that you can at least have an idea about what goes on at the school you will spend your every living moment- even if you don't know what grade you will be teaching. Hang in there! Also- it would be super helpful if you could download your states standards for taeching, any curicullum the district uses will (should be) aligned to these teaching standards. Example: I live in Texas, so we teach the TEKS and have the TAAS test. ALL of the cur. is aligned to the TEKS/TAAS. Hope some of this helps. Find people on your campus who are POSITIVE!!!
