Determining Level

Talk to the fourth grade teachers. Look at the fourth grade curriculum and standards. These will give you an idea of what students should have covered last year. Of course, each individual student will have varying degrees of skills in each area.

Check your teacher's manuals to see if the reading, math, and language programs have a preassessment that you can use. Talk to other teachers at your grade level to find out how they determine levels.
