First Year Teaching
By Beth

Clip to ScrapBook
I remember those days! I would first suggest going and looking at the other fourth grade classrooms. The older teachers can really and will generally be more than glad to help you out any way they can. I have already gotten
my bulletin boards up, and I have put one in my reading area, where the kids can read on the carpet, etc. I put up a dog with bones, and put the writing "Get Your Paws on a Good Book!" I also put up a paper bubblegum machine on a board with paper gumballs with the kids' names on them, saying "Wel-Gum to the Fourth Grade!" I also like to decorate my room with my personal knickknacks.
The kids really like to see things that you enjoy. Bring in pictures of your family and pets, if possible. If your principal allows you, plants, scented candles, etc. It makes it more inviting to go into a classroom that looks like a "home away from home." Hope this helps! Good luck and congratulations on your first year! I know you'll do great! :o)
