I worked as an assistant on the administrative side of AR so maybe I can answer some of your questions. The beautiful thing about AR is that it is individualized. Each student's level is going to be different. You shouldn't | let a student read below his/her level. If they are a 4th grade level, then they should not read below a 4th grade level. However, you could have a child in your 4th grade that reads at a 2nd grade level. This child will have to read at their level. You want to move the children up at quickly as possible but not too fast. Schools are different on this but the program says to | | move a child's level up one point when they have made 3 100's in a row on their current level. So if a child reads on a 4.1 level, let them as many 4.1's as it takes to get 3 100's in a row on 4.1's. Then move them up to a 4.2 level.
