Try splattering white dots all over black background paper. Then have the kids make "Foil Astronauts" with cotton ball faces. Try carefully cutting the large square of foil up about 4inches or so from the mid line on the| bottom of the square. Now you can shape the legs. For the head and arms : look at the top of your square. From the midline move about three inches over to the left. Cut a four inch line down. Then look at the mid line on top again. Move over about three inches to the right. Cut a four inch line down. Now you can carefully shape the astronaut's head. Look now at the sides of your | | square. Go five inches down the right and left side of your square. Cut a three inch line in towards the "belly". Now you can carefully wrap and shape your astronaut's arms. I found making all of the cuts for the students before they get the foil( at least for first and second graders) is easier and makes the project more successful for them. Encourage and demonstrate to the students that they should NOT squeeze the foil but treat the foil very carefully.I hope you can make sense of these directions because I do not have my directions here at home. After all the astronauts are pinned on the black paper I add the sun, moon and all nine planets. There are many titles for this board. One could be "Reach For The Stars."
