Trish, don't let them get you down. I went to a new school last year and was told I would have an extremely challenging class. The teachers who had them the year before had a very difficult time. I had a good year. Every teacher is different and the students respond in different ways to teachers. Yes, I had some difficulties but I tried to build an atmosphere of respect and caring. I held class meetings 3-4 times a week and empowered the students to actively become involved in solving classroom situations. I had some really great kids in my class and the few who weren't didn't ruin the year for me. Stay positive. You will have a totally different relationship with your students than the teacher before.
