We have 140 minutes for our literacy block. We have to do 60 minutes of guided reading/literacy centers, 30 minutes of writing, 30 minutes of shared reading and 20 minutes of word study/phonics. We start our day at 8:00 and end at 2:30. We also have to fit in 75 minutes of math and 50 minutes of content. We have 40 minutes of PE each day and then art, music, computer lab or library three days out of the week. It's a challenge to juggle it all. Here is the way we do it:
8:00-8:10--announcement, etc.
8:10-8:30--Calendar math
8:30-9:30--guided reading
9:30-10:00--writing
10:00-10:30--shared reading
10:30-10:50--word study/phonics
11:00-11:30--lunch
11:30-12:15--content
12:15-1:15--math
1:20-2:00--PE
2:00-2:15--finish up anything that wasn't done during the day or make up minutes for something.
