Clip to ScrapBook
I do a scavenger hunt when students first walk in the door. This helps them to find everything in the room and everyone is productive(and pretyy quiet). I ask them to find the pencil sharpener and other materials and then
I have them find students who have a birthday in June, or a student who wasn't born in the state and ect.

For Math I do an activity where they drw something did over their summer break. Then I have them put their pictures on the floor in two columns (inside activities and outdoor) I utilize their pictures to do a math review. For example, I ask them what fraction of the activities

are out door? If I had five groups of the indoor activities how many activities would there be? How many more outdoor activities do we versus indoor?

I try to create activities that we gain one anothers trust and get to know each other. Ideally I would come up with activities that fit my normal daily routine. During math were are doing something with numbers. For art we are drawing. For writing, I have them write two truths and a lie(they tell three things about themselves, but only 2 are really and teh class tries to determine which on isn't real)

I hope this helps!
