One minute fluency test
By Sue

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! You could try a quick one minute fluency test. Select a "5th grade" passage and ask each child to read the text as accurately and as fluently as they can in one minute. Each child should use the same text. You can note the words of error and see how many words they can accurately read. This would be a simple reading analysis/running record. After reading you could ask some simple questions to see their level of comprehension. I find this a quick way to measure childrens' competency level. Later on in the year give the same passage and compare results. I have some further information on it if you would like to e-mail me. Good luck!
