Are the students putting the books in their desk? During my first year, many of my books were messed up because of this. The following year, I purchased a magazine box for every student. At the beg. of the day, they are allowed to choose five books off the shelf that has to last them for the rest of the day. Then, the students store it in their book box. If they break the box, I request a two dollar fee at the end of the year to replace it. I have found that this cuts down on my books being messed up and the talking at the bookcase.
