4/5 combo
By Mabel

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! I taught in a 3/4 combo for about 6 years and when we first started out we had the same concerns. To be honest, we focused on the necessary skills (map reading, geography, using resources...) rather than the actual
content. (I teach in NY State. We did this before the State came out with a more detailed "scope and sequence.") I can understand your principal's desire to have you not teach the class separately, but she/he should be 1. Offering you assistance with this concern, and 2. Ready to support you as you begin this process.

Once you get through your first year it shouldn't be a problem

as your students will have been with you for both the fourth and fifth grade year.

I know this isn't a "how to" answer, but I wanted to share my thoughts. Good luck! What great grade levels to combine!
