What I found to work for me is to do a unit of Soc. Stud. and then a unit of Science. When I tried teaching both per day, I was too scrunched for time. When I tried teaching them each every other day...it seemed too disjointed. So, I decided I would alternate by unit, and it seems to be working fine. I found that I was still in the same spot as the other 5th grade teachers who taught it every other day. (I wasn't behind on the curriculim)
