mom&teacher
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
I too, am a mom and a 2nd gr. teacher. My daughter attends the same school where I teach. My administrator understands that we are parents too and encourages us to be there for our children. On the first day of school,
I "race" back and forth between my daughter's class and mine, leaving my assistant in charge for a few minutes here and there. I get to school a little early in order to take pictures of her at her desk and with her teacher. I always make time to join her for lunch a few days a week. There are ways to enjoy being with your child and be the teacher you need to be...it just takes a little
creativity! For classroom parties, I find out when my daughter's party is going to be and then schedule mine around it as best I can. That way I can be in both places without the guilt! Talk to your child's teacher and express your feelings, too. They should understand and may try to schedule parties, trips, etc. that would be easier for you to attend. Have a great year!
