    newspaper camouflage

I cut out fish made of two different colors of construction paper. I also cut out fish from newspaper. I lay out a 'pond' of newspaper and lay the fish on top of the pond. I'm sneaky... I try to line up the columns of the print on the pond with the columns of the print on the newspaper fish. I lay this all out ahead of time then cover it. I have a few students stand around the pond and tell them to count how many fish there are. I only give them a few seconds before I cover up the pond again. I let another group try. Then hold up the colored fish as we count aloud. Then hold up the newspaper fish and continue counting. They all moan and groan and say that I tricked them. Leads right into a discussion on camouflage.
