Frog Unit
By Helen

Clip to ScrapBook
Read FROG AND TOAD ARE FRIENDS. Look in newest Oriental Trader Catalogue and get frog fingerpuppets and let children write a play/skit using them. Read JUMP FROG, JUMP. Go to
www.schoolexpress.com You can download
theme units on there for $1.00 each. Their Frog Unit is a pretty good one. Teach your kids to play "LEAPFROG" at PE. Make frog paperbag puppets or if you will send me your snailmail addy I will send you a pattern I made for a talking frog (Uses a paper talker so you move his mouth)puppet that you sit on your arm/someone's shoulder/or a chair. Look in AIMS for lessons on frogs/toads.
Check
neighboring ponds/ditches for eggs and raise them in your classroom..have a celebration when you release them to the wild!
Make up a game of Frogo instead of Bingo..have the children write frog vocabulary words into the boxes.
Buy a set of the green frogs that you flip, from Oriental Trader. Have several students flip them from a starting line. Measure how far they go.
Capture a tree frog or other frog/toad. Keep in the classroom for a few days. Be sure to feed it!
Make a terrarium and put a small tree frog in it/record and color changes observed..again be sure to feed it. Release it in a safe area.
Write stories: "If I Were a Frog I would be a (kind) of Frog", or "If I Were a Frog I would live in (name of pond, river, forrest) and I Would...."
Hope this helps.
