" to teach science/social studies every day"
By Tabitha

Clip to ScrapBook
My schedule last year and probably this coming year was this.

8:40-9:15 check in, lunch count, attendance, pledge, announcments, and morning work. Morning work consisted of a reading journal assignment, a spelling assignment,
and a math problem.

9:15-10:20 Math- the lesson and group work

10:20-11:10 special-my planning period

11:15-11:35 finish math lesson, if not completed, and students work on finishing morning work

11:40-12:10 Lunch

12:10-12:40 Recess

12:40-1:00 bathroom break and SSR

1:00 to 2:00 Reading, language, spelling review, writing. I incorporated as much as possible in this hour.

Sometimes I would extend it into the next hour if I saw a spark of interest.

2:00-3:10 Science or Social studies ( one each day)

3:10-3:25 clean up,write down homework, pack up, and play trivia ( My kids loved playing trivia and clean up got done very quickly in order to do this)

3:25-3:50 Dismissal

I found that with my schedule so crazy that I taught science one day and then social studies the next. I found that it gave my students time to comprehend what we were doing and also gave time for experiment obsevation. Of course there were times when I would just teach science one week and social studies the next. Ee use science kits provided by our district and they are due back at certain times so it just depended upon what I got taught and what I saw needed more attention. You have to be very flexable in teaching any subject since you never know whats coming up during the day.
