Here are a few items that you could sell that shouldn't be too expensive. Have friends and family save this stuff for you. You can ask them to keep you in mind when they clean out their children's bedrooms, too!

Prizes
from cereal boxes
Happy meal prizes (I often buy a happy meal because I'm not a big eater.)
Teacher supply odds and ends (sticky notes, stickers, etc.)
Take-home books (the kind you copy and staple)
Small candies (leftover halloween or Christmas candy)
Cute tiny boxes that stuff came in. (Kids love the boxes to store their own stuff.)
Pens, pencils and other promotional
give-aways you may have collected, but won't ever use. Always take them anyway and add them to your gift box at school. Better yet, ask the vendor if you can have a handful. Tell them you are a teacher and give these items to students. They will often give you more than you expect.
