new themes needed

I have had great fun with starting the year on a "Happy New Year" theme. The students get an invitation before school starts that tells them about a "New Years Party " on the first day of school. When they arrive we decorate a new years hat together. This takes away many fears thata six year old has on that first day. There are many discount stores to buy triangular party hats . I take the first of many hat pictures for the year that day. The student's end of the year journal collection has a photograph taken of him/her in a different hat. The "New Years "theme can be easily developed with setting "resolutions" or goals for the year etc.
