There is a book that might help you! I had that same question- I found the NEWLY published Guiding Readers and Writers Grades 3-6 Teaching Comprehension, Genre, and Content Literacy by Irene C. Fountas and Gay Su Pinnell. It is an EXCELLENT resource for everything you want to know about guided reading and how to organize your class room in order to facilitate the block scheduling. I hope this helps! It's a long read, but very worth it!
