I live in Florida now, but used to live in West Milford, NJ. How about the Franklin Zinc mines? Lots of rock hunting and a cave tour for the kids. Can relate to study of rocks and minerals. Located in Franklin, NJ, in Sussex Co. Can go to Waywayanda Park, too, to do nature tours and such, they have picnic areas and a lake, this is in either Hewitt NJ, (Upper Greenwood Lake) or Warwick, NY, not sure where the address is but it is on Warwick Tpke. Or what about Ringwood Manor on Sloatsburg Road in Ringwood for history of the state? Beautiful manor with guided tours, and can picnic at Ringwood State Park.
