portfolios

I have never done portfolios myself, but I did tape record my 3rd graders reading at the beginning, middle and end of the year. They used a book of their choice and practiced beforehand. I did the first sample and used my aide and a competent parent helper to do some of the follow-up ones. It became a very valuable example of their growth and the kids seemed to enjoy it. I feel it could easily be part of their portfolio. I have heard of the same sort of thing done on video along with recording other school events, but do not know of anyone personally who has tried it.
