age mattters!
By Brendi

Clip to ScrapBook
Hey, I am 24 and last year was my first year to teach 5th grade math. I have to say that age really does matter in a classroom. We are allowed to wear jeans on Friday at my school. All week long I'd dress up (wear skirts and dressy shoes) but on Friday if I wore jeans the kids treated me completely different. They'd be talking in line when I was standing right behind them. I tapped one on the shoulder for this and one kid said, "Oh, Mrs. Sparks! I thought you were a kid!" I had to quit wearing jeans on Friday. Older teachers don't have this problem. Not only does your age matter so does the way you dress and present yourself. And take my advice, never wear bootcut jeans in older age classes! They won't even give you a teachers portion at lunch if you do!
