homework/yes or no
By Third Grade Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
My district requires homework as do the parents. I have always based my consequence, at the third grade level, individually depending on the child. I mostly let my students have recess (they need it with the expectations
we have for them today). And, I have had students who do not like to go outside (our recess is outside unless raining or temp. is below 20 degrees) for various reasons and they will begin to not do homework so they can stay in!!! The last piece of housekeeping I do in the morning is find out who has/has not done homework. Then usually I pull the kid(s) during an activity that is independent
and have them do the homework. Or, they do it when they have finished other work. It is always done before they leave that day. If it becomes habitual, a call goes home to parents.
