Interesting opinions
By Carolyn

Thanks for your opinions. I can see that most of you don't favor the practice of keeping kids in. I have had parents in the past who have even objected to my keeping their kids in at recess time for behavior.

This is an interesting idea about not giving any homework at all. I have known teachers who have done this. I may just check in with my district to see if homework is a requirement. I think most of my parents have expected it. I may disappoint them if I didn't give it. My students are from a very low socio-economic community, but some of the parents really care about "extra practice" for their kids. Unfortunately, some of these parents can't help their kids with the fifth grade math assignments I send home.
