Direct Instruction Reading
By Brenda

Clip to ScrapBook
Becky,

Read a book entitled "Why Our Children Can't Read And What We Can Do About It." I have taught for 15 years and this is the first book about the teaching of reading that makes sense to me. It is very adaptable as far as giving you ideas for improving your reading instruction within the "program" that your school insists that you use. It basically is a book that reviews the many ways to teach reading and offers scientific research as to what works and what doesn't. That is rare in the "Teaching of Reading" arena. The author's name is Diane McGuinness and as far as I am concerned, it should be required reading for every elementary school teacher and administrator.
I hope this helps you to deliver better reading instruction to your students.
