checking homework By Amy Lee

I guess it depends on your grade level or the difficulty of the assignment. If it is a simple activity even young children can check the work using answers displayed on the board or overhead projector. I have students| turn homework into a folder. Each student has a classroom folder with pockets which stays in the class. I have a student helper to hand out folders. Students know where the folders are always located and some will get their folder before they are handed out. I have activities which correlated to the homework or season of the year which students can work on after they check or turn | | in their homework. I even place stickers on the front if the students did well the day before and I place treats in their folders occassionally especially at the beginning of the year to get them in the habit of using the folder. After the homework is graded and a grade placed in my grade book then the homework is returned to the folder for students to place in their own folders or binders. I get the folders with prongs so hole punched worksheets and work completed on notebook paper that I want students to keep in the classroom can be placed in the folder. I work with ADD/ADHD middle school students and organizational skills are a weakness so tests they may need for mid-term or finals is keep in their folders. This way when we review I know everyone has the review material. I hope this helps. Amy Lee
