sending work home By Kellly in MO

I have folders for each student. They leave them on my shelf. They simply add work as I return it to them, go over it in class, etc. Every two weeks I send this work home in an oversized manilla envelope (the oversized| envelopes are easier to stuff). I have the kids put the work in the envelope and turn it in to me. On the front of each envelope I tape a sheet of paper with three or four send home dates. I leave a place for my comments about student progress, grades, concerns, or praises. I hand the envelope to the students within the next 2 days and they take it home. The parent removes the work | | and is required to sign that they have seen the papers. If they wish, they can check the blank that indicates that they have sent a return note. They put the note inside and return the envelope the next Monday. I can address their comments, correspond with them about anything, parents see the work and keep up with their child's current level of work. I call these Parent Correspondence Packets. I leave the form on my computer and simply change the dates. When one form is filled up, I tape a new one to the front and file the old one in the folder that I keep for each child. A parent can never say that they did not know their child was having trouble or that I never was in touch with them. My principal loves it!!
