" homework or no homework" By Tabitha

As all of you have stated above I to felt bogged down with so many papers that I couldn't take it anymore. I only assign homework Monday- Thursday and it is usually two-three assignments and 25 minutes of reading. I would have each student turn in homework folders and then check off who did what. If they did it then they got tickets. If not they lost recess and it was reported on the weekly report at the end of the week. I still had lots of papers to grade. This year I am going to use table captains and folders. The table captain will copy the homework from the night before on a list in each folder | | and check off who did what. They I will collect the folders to see who did and didn't do their work. If they did it then they will get a sticker as a group. If not they will go to a file box and pull out their IOU paper and write down the missed assignment. I will also report this on their weekly report. If they get a sticker as a group then each person will earn two points. If not then it will be 1 for the person who has incomplete work and no recess. If none they earn a 0 and no recess. They will also take the card home to be sign by parents after a certain amount of missed work. I have also decided to do a lot more group work to be turned in instead of single paper work. That way I will only have six to seven papers to grade instead of 20-30. I don't take papers after the end of the week. If they are absent they go to the homework book and file to get missed work. They have three days to complete it or it will become a 0.
