homework incentives
By Carol

Clip to ScrapBook
I have heard that the class homework incentive of adding a letter each time to spell H O M E W O R K works well with 4th graders. Although, you need to keep the students' interest throughout the year so the reward needs
to change each time. I have also heard that changing the word to be spelt works even better. The students get excited to see what the word ends up spelling, this can build vocabulary awarness as well as become an incentive program. The word should not be announced to the students ahead of time, and can be adjusted for difficulty by length. A word might be one chosen from their reading
vocabulary or from another subject being discussed in the class. Even fun no nonsense words could be used such as SUPERCALAFRAGILISTIC. Have fun with it and you will find that your students will too.
