parent/new teacher response
By Yolunda

Clip to ScrapBook
I have not had the experience as a teacher, but my upcoming 4th grader has been "kept in" for not doing homework, and I disagree with it. Recess is a part of school, and I don't believe there is any reason for taking it
away! (-extreme disruptive behavior) If you are seeing the same students miss day in and out, you may try to find other means of "waking them up" to the problem. For example, take away another privelage in the classroom (line leader, pencil sharpener etc.), reward the kids that do their homework, find out what the reason is for their incompletion, lack of interest and build on improving
that, offer "mini homework" assignments during classtime, and reward them for completion. I am sorry that I don't have any solid ideas for doing this, but I am first year teacher. Good luck!
