I have been teaching third grade for 10 years with the same teacher. We are departmental, so the whole third grade has the same rules. What we have found to work is a clip with a magnet. We have a magnet for each subject. We clip the magnets with the subject area labled above on one wall where it remains all year. All students know it is there. When a student is absent any work that must be completed is clipped to the magnet with their name and date on it. We also have the students clip any work that should have been finished during class and can not go home for homework here. It is the students responsibility to come before school each morning until the work is completed. It works great, the work gets done. Give it a try!!
