Thanks for the advice! I can see standards also, but the testing is too much. We have books which also help us prepare, along with several put out from the state. I agree that skills can and should be focused on without letting on to the students. We do have a listening test also. I like your idea about doing it in the regular routine of things and plan to incorporate it this year! How do you handle social studies? I use novels, and have considered using some that would tie the 2 subjects together. Do you have it everyday? Some teachers I have talked to do not. I have a hard time with that. I have considered doing block planning, but do not know much about it.
