I would have
By Chris

Clip to ScrapBook
I am glad someone said what I was thinking, Tricia! I am normally against spanking too, but for some kids -especially those who have a "bad life" will not respond to anything else. I would have liked for the trip to the
principal's office to be so scary that they would never act in a way that would warrant a visit again. But, usually it was just a firm talk, which resulted in a letter home that was never signed, by parents who aren't around...are drunk...in jail... etc.

As a new teacher, I want to feel that these kids aren't going to be a constant distraction to me and the other students.
If spanking would work, use it.

*****IMPORTANT DISTINCTION******* Spanking in my definition anyway, does not mean BEATING. My parents spanked me probably 2x in 14 years, only as a last resort. They never did it angry, or caused more than a little sting, but they made it clear that my choices determined this action. I was made accountable for what I had chosen to do, and I knew they loved me. If done correctly, spanking doesn't need to be seen as the "switch-whippin'" we so commonly hear about. It might be all that works....
