I'm sorry for you!

My blood boiled when I read about your situation. I know how it feels to have unreasonable parents with bad kids. Often, by looking at the parents, you can almost expect the kids to act exactly the same way.

I went to
UNC-Wilmington in NC, and we too were trained in what to talk about-or should I say NOT to talk about with others. I'll share a famous UNCW intern story with you. It's been told for years...

There was a group of interns at a restaurant discussing their experiences one night in the spring of that year. As I'm sure you know, most of the discussion revolved around the frustrations they

were experiencing with kids in their classes. As they each tried to outdo each other with "you-won't-believe-what-my-student-did" stories, one girl spoke up and told everyone about "Johnny" and what a terrible child he was. She told it all. Even some things she'd like to do to him...not too bad though. She said not only was he bad, but he was really pretty dumb too, and dressed weird, acted stupid, you can tell where I am going with this.

Anyway, when she showed up at school on Monday, her partnership teacher and the principal were waiting to talk with her, and she was in trouble... Apparently, all this "harmless" sharing at the Pizza Hut was accidentally overheard by the boy's grandmother, who was sitting directly behind this girl on the other side of the booth. I am sure this girl didn't really mean what she said, she was just venting- as we all need to do- A lot! But, she didn't use good judgment, and ended up losing her internship and an opportunity to teach in that county. It all comes at a price.

My advice to you is this... find someone (someONE) you trust, hopefully a veteran teacher who's seen it all, experienced it all, and all that. Share with her what's going on, in your classroom, in confidence. I have never in my life heard of any teacher who could go through ONE day without venting to somebody else about just how bad things can seem. Don't let anyone tell you not to share, just be VERY careful who you talk to, and what you say.
