Clip to ScrapBook
After 20+ years in 3rd grade I found Harry Wong's book very useful. He talks about how to establish a few basic rules and routines and present them in a way that is useable for you and the students. Establishing a climate of control will enable you to teach so it is time well spent at the beginning and should be reviewed often. He suggests you post the procedures so they are available for all to see. I have always tried to ignore other teachers "helpful" advice about their former students coming to you. Each teacher brings a new personality and approach to teaching--maybe just what they need. Also, the students are often in a new mixed group and somewhat more mature when they meet you. I'm sure you will be able to bring out the best in them!
