Although I haven't read this book myself (I do have a copy ordered) everyone seems to think that Harry Wong's The First Days of School is a wonderful book to help new teachers. My book should be here today or Monday and I really can't wait to get it!!

The only "advice" I personally could give is to set the ground rules the first day. I have heard a million times "It is easy to loosen up, but you can NEVER(seldom) tighten up" My brother who teaches middle school is VERY strict on his students for about the first month. He writes them up for anything they do--forgetting materials to talking during class. However, after he writes up the first two or three the studetns see he means business and he has little to no behavior problems!!
